Great Dane in a Chihuahua Bed

Olivia decided it's time to try out our old Chihuahua Mix Sandy's bed. Isn't it amazing how small Danes can make themselves?

For some reason this bed is very loved, since I remember Kicker, the Dumpster Puppy (Great Dane Mix), squeezing himself into it as well:

and Josie with Samson:

Everybody but Sandy LOL!

I pulled Honey's stitches today. She did not move or flinch, I think she didn't even breathe..what a girl! She healed up well. The last stitch removal was sort of a finalizing moment, because with that she is ready to start living now.

We'll plan to take all the dogs out to Proctor Lake next week on a long hike. This is going to be fuuuuuun.

4 Border Collie Mix Breed Puppies for adoption!

4 Border Collie Mix Breed Puppies for adoption!
Border Collie Puppies Border Collie Puppies

These adorable puppies were found in a plastic bag in a street. A passerby (thank you whoever you are!) noticed the bag moving, picked it up and found these newborn puppies inside.

5 weeks later the pups, 1 male and 3 females, have received their fist puppy shots and are de-wormed. If you live in the Stephenville, Texas, area and are interested in adopting one of the puppies, please click HERE.

Puppies and Olivia Updates

The 4 Border Collie Pups are nearly 5 weeks old. I printed out a flyer and took it to the shelter. Hopefully it will catch some doglovers' attention. Aren't they adorable???

And here is a picture of Olivia. She spends today at the Animal Health and Medical to receive medication in order to get rid of the heartworm larvae in her blood stream. The adult worms should be dead by now, if I understood that correctly.

Spaying is up next!

Momma Cat with 5 Newborns, first Kittens of the Year 2008

This momma cat just had her 5 babies at the shelter. It's not really the best place for a momma cat to be nursing her lil ones, so I decided to foster them, since my kitten cages are empty anyways.

The kittens are late this year. Usually I'm crowded with orphans at this time. Sometimes they come in end of January already. I'm not complaining though, I'm not getting bored!

Honey was spayed today!

Honey has been spayed today. The surgery went fine, vet just called. I will get her back tomorrow morning! Butters is running around and looking for her, is missing her already. And frankly, so am I. She's such a sunshine.

Olivia, Border Collie Puppies and the rest of the Gang

Well, the 2nd week of the heartworm treatment is almost over. I was told it's the most dangerous.

Olivia seems a little bit on the down side, since she can't act like a dog I guess, but she also sleeps a lot and is doing otherwise ok, so I'm not worried. The vet said that she might get a little depressed. So she gets some extra brushing (she loooves her soft bristle horse brush!! It shows in the shine, doesnt' it?) and TLC.

The pups are starting to run around now, falling all over themselves lol, and Honey doesn't take much care of them anymore. She does go in there a few times a day and still cleans them, but she won't lay down with them anymore.

WOW, big paw right there!!! hahaha

Her appointment to get spayed is next Wednesday!

Yesterday we received a box of rawhide from a kind dog lover, Olliver can't wait lol:

Thank you, Claudia!!!

Olivia, day 9 of her Heartworm Treatment

Olivia has not needed pain medication in a few days now and she feels good. Her appetite still lacks a little, but she's not in pain anymore. She wants to play with the other dogs, but has learned that she needs to stay quiet and then she gets her cuddles and all is good :).

She also came out of heat finally, which helped a lot to calm her down too!

I think Honey is about to start though!! I set up her appointment to be spayed for next week Wednesday. There was no earlier appointment available. I hope she won't start with the "mess" before that!

The 4 Border Collie puppies are doing great too. The only male and runt could grow a bit bigger for my taste, but he appears to be ok, except that he's half the size of his 3 very strong sisters.

They are spending most of their time outside in the sun now, but get hot really fast, so they need a lot of shade too and wet towles to sleep on. They love wet towels. Honey still cares for them, but is totally dried up.

We are going to start the puppies on solids today, this is going to be fuuuuuun and very very messy! I will post pictures later!

Olivia feels better

Olivia, Sandy, and Honey eating together. Olivia will not eat when she is alone or even locked up in her pen.

She is feeling a LOT better than yesterday and almost a handful to keep calm today. She wants to run and play, and it's breaking my heart to have to hold her back, but it can harm her tremendously if I would allow it, so I keep reminding myself of that constantly.

Olivia on day 4 of her Heartworm Treatment

Olivia isn't feeling so good these days. She never was a morning person, but now she cries out in pain when she moves first thing in the morning.

The Vet gave us pain medication, and once she has taken her dosage, she starts to feel better, but her appetite has declined a lot.

Olivia, Great Dane, 3rd Day of Heartworm Treatment - back Home

I just picked up Olivia from the Animal Health and Medical Center here in Stephenville. She spent 2 days there and received injections that have started to kill those damn worms in her heart. Now the liver has to clean them all out, meaning it'll take up to 5 weeks where I have to keep her very quiet. No playing, no running, no nothing.

Then she will get spayed...and everything is payed for! Can you imagine! The clinic covered part of the costs, which is amazing, because they really didn't have to do this. They never even got paid for the week they had her after she was seized..so this clinic is definitely about animals and not designer furniture in the waiting room, which I appreciate a lot!

Poor thing is still in heat, 2nd week into it now, and she's giving Olliver the eye lol.

Olivia at the Animal Health and Medical Center in Stephenville

Olivia started her heart worm treatment yesterday. She has to stay at the clinic for 2 days, so in about 24 hours I can pick her up again.

I miss the ole gal dearly and it broke my heart to see her getting so excited and wanting to come home with me. I was allowed to take her outside into the backyard a bit for some sunshine:

Olivia started Heartworm Treatment

I just dropped Olivia off at the Animal Health and Medical Center in Stephenville. She is starting the heartworm treatment today. I have to admit I am a little bit nervous, but I also know she is in the best hands possible...the hands that saved her life when she was close to death.

Olivia's story as well as the story of the other rescue dogs here, was in the Sunday paper yesterday. What a great article that was and the layout just blew my mind! Kudos to the writer (Joyce Whitis) and layout artist (Kelly Mason)!

Here is a link to a picture of the Empire Tribune:

I will add a link to the online version of the article, IF they put it on there at all.

In the meantime, Honey continues to take care of the Border Collie puppies:

and Olliver thinks he's actually helping:

Border Collie Puppies

Honey's last puppy was adopted 2 days ago.
She still takes care of the 4 Border Collie pups, now 9 days old, but the milk is drying up fast now. However, her help in keeping the pups clean is priceless!

Olivia will start heartworm treatment this Monday as planned.
